Great Glory Church Anti-Abuse and Sexual Harassment Policy

  1. Great Glory Church (GGC) is firmly opposed to abuse and/or sexual harassment and is committed to doing its very best to prevent abuse and/or sexual harassment. Such abuse and/or sexual harassment is not only unlawful, but is also sinful and in violation of Biblical law, which commands all believers of Christ to treat each other with absolute purity and with gentlenes (1 Tim 5:1-2; Eph 4:2).
  1. Abuse can come in many forms, including violence, psychological and mental abuse, verbal, textual and behavioural abuse. Sexual harassment can likewise come in many forms, and includes any form of unwelcome sexual advance or conduct, whether verbal, textual, or behavioural. Both men and women may be victims of sexual harassment from harassers or the same sex or different sex.
  1. The following describes some of the types of acts that may be unlawful sexual harassment and that are strictly prohibited:
  • Physical acts of a sexual nature, such as touching, pinching, patting, kissing, hugging, grabbing, brushing against another person’s body or poking another member’s body.
  • Rape, sexual battery, molestation or attempts to commit these assaults.
  • Unwanted sexual advances or propositions, such as requests for sexual favors accompanied by implied or overt threats.
  • Subtle or obvious pressure for unwelcome sexual activities.
  • Sexually oriented gestures, noises, remarks or jokes, or comments about a person’s sexuality or sexual experience.
  • Sex stereotyping, which occur when conduct or personality traits are considered inappropriate simply because they may not conform to other people’s ideas or perceptions about how individuals of a particular sex should act or look.
  • Sexual or discriminatory displays or publications anywhere, such as displaying pictures, posters, calendars, graffiti, objects, promotional material, reading materials or other materials that are sexually demeaning or pornographic. This includes such sexual displays on computers or cell phones and sharing such displays.
  • Bullying, yelling, name-calling.
  1. If at any point any member faces any form of abuse and/or sexual harassment, you are strongly encouraged to step forward and report such misbehaviour to one of the church ombudsmen, Pastor Wendy Lee and Pastor Victor Chok.
  1. GGC will not hesitate to take firm disciplinary action against perpetrators of abuse and/or sexual harassment. GGC also undertakes that there will be no retaliation or discrimination against any member for lodging a truthful complaint of abuse and/or sexual harassment, regardless of who the perpetrator is. The member will be assisted and encouraged in lodging their complaint.
